So many new featuers, ripple editing, chroma keys, multiwindows!

Blick Public Beta Version 0.1.4: Patch Notes

New Features:

  • Ripple editing: Ripple delete selection (Shift+X), Ripple cut (Ctrl+Shift+X), Ripple delete clip at playhead (W), and Ripple trim start/end to playhead (Q/E). Hold A and drag a clip edge to ripple trim.
  • Layout presets: save the current panel arrangement as a named layout and switch between layouts from the Layout dropdown. Layouts now belong to the app rather than stored on the project.
  • Multiwindow: drag a panel tab out of the window and it becomes its own window, or use the "Detach selected panel to its own window" command. Panel windows are saved with layouts.
  • Zoomable Monitor panel: zoom into the monitor and pan around, with scroll and zoom step settings.
  • Selective effect copy: every effect in the Effects panel has a copy button to copy just that effect, or use "Copy effects from clip" and "Paste effects to selection" for all of them. Pasting carries keyframes along.
  • Chroma key effect: key out a color to make it transparent on video and image clips, with keyframeable key color, tolerance, softness, and spill controls.
  • Gap deletion: right click the empty space between two clips to select the gap and close it.
  • Monitor snapping: dragging a clip in the monitor snaps it to the canvas center axes, hold Shift to snap to a single axis. The transform anchor point snaps as well.
  • Timeline clips draw a subtle procedural noise texture to give a visual reference when moving clips especially at high zoom levels.
  • Encoder selector with capabilities polled at startup, an encoding profile selector, and advanced encoder options including variable GOP sizes (up to 10 seconds on high quality).
  • Media files with more than two streams now create clips for all of their streams when dropped in.
  • Place several items on the timeline in one drag: select multiple files in the Media panel, or drag multiple files from your file explorer, and they are laid down one after another.

Improvements:

  • Massive Encoder speed improvements, fixed decoder reuse slowdowns and moved NV12 conversion to the GPU on Metal
  • Aspect ratio lock for the render resolution: change one dimension and the other follows.
  • Clips with effects show an fx or diamond on the timeline to signify at a glance whether the clip has effects and/or keyframes.
  • Image clips are now colored with the prominent color of their image.
  • Jump one second forward or back with Shift+Period and Shift+Comma.
  • File > Quit, and quitting with unsaved changes now asks to Save, Don't Save, or Cancel.
  • Select clip at playhead: press V to select the clip under the playhead on the current track.
  • Monitor players can now open images too.
  • Fonts in the Media panel now have Relocate and Remove media actions, with the option to remove their text clips too, matching other media.
  • The Media panel clears its selection when you click outside the list or press Esc.
  • Added Color picker on all color widgets.
  • Keyframe pasting: right click to paste keyframes, including across different clips when the channel type matches. Right click a keyframe to change its interpolation type.

Blick 0.1.3 just got released!

New Features:

  • Monitor players: Monitor panels can now work as video players for media items, drop a media file from the Media panel or your file explorer onto a Monitor panel and it becomes a standalone player for that file, independent of the timeline.
Drop a specific stream to play just that stream.
Close a player from the X on its tab to get the timeline view back, and "Pause all monitor players" is available as a command.
  • Fonts as project media: import .ttf, .otf, and .ttc font files through the Media panel, the Import Font button, or by dropping them in from your file explorer.
Imported fonts show up in the Media panel with their faces, can be inspected in the Inspector (file, faces, face index), selected in the font picker, and are saved with the project.
  • JKL shuttle controls: L plays forward and J plays backward. Tap the same key again to step the speed up by the configurable factor (default 2x, up to 32x), tap the opposite key to step it back down, and K stops. Hold J or L for half a second and the speed ramps up continuously for as long as you hold it, then drops back when you release. Hold K and tap J or L to step single frames, with auto-repeat.
  • Backwards playback: the timeline now supports playback in reverse at any shuttle speed.
  • Reverse clips: right click a clip and tick Reverse to play it backwards in place. Also available as the "Reverse clip(s)" command.
  • Audio stretch playback settings: a new Settings option picks how audio is stretched during sped-up or slowed-down playback. Spectral keeps pitch and suits music, Speech is a dedicated stretcher tuned for voice, and Varispeed pitches audio up and down like tape.
  • The audio Amplitude effect is now renamed to Intrinsics and gains per-clip VariSpeed toggles, so individual clips can opt into tape-style pitch shifting or a pitch preserving playback.
  • Transform effect gains a base zoom: a Base Zoom percentage with a Base Zoom Target point, applied on top of the base scale, both keyframeable.
  • New Media panel: Now a sortable table with Name, Duration, Status, Type, Date Modified, and Path columns, a search box, box selection, Ctrl and Shift multi-selection, and Select all (Ctrl+A while the panel is focused).
  • Selective gather: right click a selection in the Media panel and choose Gather media to copy just those files into the project folder.
